As a lover of languages (Spanish, French, Persian and English, for the most part) and all things grammatical, translation offers me a channel for nourishing and finding practical applications for these two loves–and to be a creative writer without ever having to worry about writer’s block (or depression:  in translation the page is always at least half-full).

To speak plainly and humbly, on the site “The Faithful Translator” I seek not to promote myself as a faithful translator, but to explore the notion of a such a thing.  The concept of a faithful translation reflects a perfect balance of fact and feeling, impossible to achieve, but worth striving and striving for, and deriving from a piece of wisdom common to the world’s religions:  “Seek ye the middle way.”

A play on words in the title is intended.  As a Baha’i living in Israel and serving at the Baha’i World Centre, I am interested in the connections between faith and–well, everything, including translation.  (Permit me to be clear that in this regard, too, I am exploring a concept rather than engaging in shameless self-aggrandizement.)

“Reflections on Translation” will serve its purpose should it find its place in the conversation about translation issues that thrives online thanks to the efforts of so many thoughtful translator-bloggers.
